"« Ousman Umar (Ghana 1988) is a Ghanian social entrepreneur, speaker and communicator. He was born in Fiaso, in the north of Ghana. At only 12 years of age he left his country and decided to embark on a trip to Europe in search of a better future. Fiveyearslater,aftercrossingtheSaharadesertonfoot,theseainadinghy and witnessing the death of the majority of his companions along the way, he arrived in Spain. He travelled a total of 21,333km, having crossed 8 countries to reach Barcelona. Following months of sleeping in the street, he was finally adopted by a family. From that point, he began his studies, learned English, Catalan and Spanish and managed to find work as a bicycle mechanic. In 2012 with his first savings, he founded NASCO Feeding Minds, a Non-Governmental Organization located in both Ghana and Barcelona Spain that supports and promotes digital education and information to the young generations of Ghana. Awarded in the WSIS Prizes by the ITU in 2017. Ousman graduated with a degree in Public Relations, Marketing and Business Administration and later a Master’s Degree in International Cooperation from ESADE. In 2019 he published the book “Viaje al País de los Blancos”, where he recounts his journey to Europe. Two years later his second book, “Desde el País de los Blancos”, is released, narrating the second part of his story and perhaps the most painful and difficult, surviving in Barcelona. In 2022, the English version of his first title was launched under the title “North to Paradise”. Near 50,000 copies of all 3 books have sold to date. In 2019, he created, NASCOTech a social company that generates professional work opportunities for students who have graduated and can offer ICT services for European companies was established. Ousman was honoured with the Princess of Girona Social Award in 2021 where the jury regarded his transformative project as well as his career path and resilience. In 2022 he was invited to the PEN World Voices Festival in New York where he also participated in the Global Migration Forum at the United Nations. At present, he works full time at NASCO Feeding Minds and NASCOTech, giving conferences in companies and schools around the world as well as participating on the radio, television and national and international events where he can keep developing his projects. »"
